How I got Leaky Gut – Lola Jane – My story

My name is Lola Jane and I’d like to share my Leaky Gut story with you. This has been a very challenging time in my life. I feel convicted to offer support and encouragement to others with health issues who I meet along the way.

In this video, I explain the events that led up to getting Leaky Gut Syndrome. I’ve come a long way from the days when I was bedridden and I’m thankful that I have had some significant healing since then.

As I continue to heal, I have accrued a new positive outlook on life. I am excited to share my story and journey with any others who are interested in seeking a healthier lifestyle and a more peaceful mindset.

Reclaiming Health and Leaky Gut – My journey- Lola Jane

I have had Leaky Gut Syndrome for over a year. It has been the hardest year of my life and I was bedridden for some of it. I’ve come a long way, but I still suffer from extensive food sensitivities and fatigue, mostly.

I used to be a runner, was very active, adventurous, and athletic. I earned my black belt in Taekwondo and was training for a marathon.

Since I became very sick about 1 year ago, I’ve been too weak and sick to do much exercise. The most I’ve been able to do is stretching, walking, and light yoga.

Lately, I’ve been experiencing some increased energy and clarity after incorporating green juicing into my diet once or twice a day. They have helped with cleansing/elimination, have increased my energy, and seem to provide more mental clarity. I believe they are helping with much needed detoxing that my boy needs on a regular basis with my condition.

Something came over me the other day and I decided to dust off my treadmill and submit to a mere walk to get my body moving. Walking felt very easy so I decided to move up to a brisk walk. That felt very easy as well so I decided to move to a slow jog. Once I realized I was jogging, I became elated with joy! I couldn’t believe it and it didn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable. I continued to run a little more, the whole time smiling with the biggest grin of joy! I couldn’t believe what was happening! I was running for the first time in over a year!

As I ran up to a 1/4 mile, I noticed that the skin on my torso, my hips, and upper legs started to itch incredibly and turn red. I couldn’t resist scratching a little. As I continued to run, I could feel this itching sensation grow. I decided to jump off the treadmill and go look in the mirror. My skin was red all over these areas. I’m not sure exactly why I began to itch like that, but my best guess is that my body was flushing toxins. I continued to run about .4 miles and stopped there. I didn’t want to over do it since I hadn’t moved my body, my tendons, my muscles like that in so long. I was gleaming with tears of joy and had pure elation. I felt like the old me!

Now, after a couple of week from that day, my body can handle up to 1 1/4 mile. I’m taking it slow and easy. It feels absolutely amazing! Getting my body moving more than stretching and walking has helped me tremendously. I know that my body is ready for this now because it feels easy and comfortable. I don’t run when I’m feeling sick or very fatigued. I always try to stay kind to my body.

I’m going to continue to listen to my body, jog when it feels good, and drink my beloved green juice smoothies.

What is Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Leaky Gut Syndrome is a disorder involving increased intestinal permeability or hyper permeability. There are tight junctions in the intestines that control what is allowed to pass through the small intestinal wall and into the bloodstream.  When the junctions are compromised, the intestinal lining can “leak” bacteria, toxins, undigested proteins, fats, and waste into the bloodstream. When excess substances leak into the blood, it can cause an autoimmune reaction, which can lead to a variety of symptoms, such as abdominal swelling, gas, bloating, cramps, pain, distention, food sensitivities, fatigue, malaise, diarrhea, skin rashes, brain fog, toxic feelings, joint aches/pain, and poor exercise tolerance.

Some diseases associated with increased intestinal permeability include:

-food intolerances/sensitivities
-Pancreatic insufficiency
-Chronic inflammation
-Cystic fibrosis
-Hepatic dysfunction
-Environmental illness

Dr. Leo Galland refers to Leaky Gut Syndrome as a vicious cycle that involves 4 major stages.

Cycle one is Allergy. Many people with Leaky Gut Syndrome accrue food sensitivities. He explains that “the relationship between food sensitivities and leaky gut is complex and circular” (  Exposure to allergenic foods causes a sharp increase to intestinal permeability.

Cycle Two is Malnutrition. “Malnutrition can also be defined as the insufficient, excessive or imbalanced consumption of nutrients” ( Leaky gut can cause the intestinal lining or epithelial wall to become damaged, which can then cause malnutrition. The epithelium or gut lining has a normal cell turnover every 3-6 days. If malnutrition persists, it can inhibit the regrowth of the epithelium and hyperpermeability can intensify. Dr. Galland also explains that there is a relationship between intestinal hyperpermeability and pancreatic dysfunction; therefore, pancreatic enzymes could be beneficial for leaky gut sufferers (

Cycle Three is Bacterial Dysbiosis.  Bacterial dysbiosis refers to a microbial imbalance in the body.  Dysbiosis can lead to imbalances of normal gut flora in the intestines with an overgrowth of bacteria and other microorganisms.  This can alter immune responses in the body. If there is hyperpermeability, bacteria sensitization can occur and then lead to inflammation. Inflammation can lead back to hyperpermeability, which explains the circular, vicious cycle of leaky gut syndrome.

Cycle Four is Hepatic Stress. The word “hepatic” is defined as “of or relating to the liver ( With Leaky gut sydrome, the functions of the liver are stressed and working overtime to remove toxic substances that have leaked out of the intestines and into the bloodstream. The inability of the liver to keep up with removing the toxins can lead to an excess of endotoxins in the body, which then leads to toxicity. Toxicity in the body can lead back to exacerbating the hyperpermeability of the gut, and once again, perpetuating the leaky gut cycle.

­­Hyperpermeability generates a vicious cycle that can affect the functions of the digestive tract, liver, pancreas, and immune system.  Leaky gut syndrome is a complex health condition that requires the attention of a qualified health practitioner to develop a customized treatment plan to minimize damage and strategize toward healing and recovery.

Lola Jane here committed to sharing my leaky gut journey with you. I have Leaky gut syndrome and I want to share my journey, both the peaks and valleys, and be a support for anyone else suffering with this condition. Leaky gut sufferers, you are not alone! Green Juicing is the bees nees of cleansing and being kind to a leaky gut body. The raw vegetables are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Blending or juicing them will allow the nutrients to be readily available to the body for enhanced absorption. Green juicing gives the digestive track a little break and promotes elimination, which promotes cleansing and detoxing. Cleansing is very important for leaky gut sufferers. We need as much help as we can get since our guts leak toxins into our bodies. Green juicing helps get the bowels moving to help remove some of those toxins from our bodies. Green juicing is easy and it tastes good! I add juice recipes into my daily regime. Candida sufferers would benefit from substituting stevia, sweetlife, or xylitol in place of the dates.

Hi there! My name is Lola Jane and I have Leaky Gut Syndrome. I have been living with LGS for about 1 year and I’m currently on a long road to recovery. I wanted to start this blog to offer support and encouragement to others who are also living with Leaky Gut Syndrome. I know it’s a very difficult condition to have and that there are challenges every single day.  It can be hard to stay positive at times. I’d like to take this journey with you, share some of my story, and let you know that you are not alone! I want to offer you uplifting support, encouragement, and hope!
